BREEDER & OWNER: Dr Hilmer & ZG Meyer-Kulenkampff
RIDER: Julia Krajewski
THE German combination of Julia Krajewski and Chipmunk FRH (right) completed a hat-trick with CICO3* triumph in Aachen recently. The pair also won the CCI3* at Bramham in June, and the Marbach CIC3* in May.
The 10-year-old Chipmunk, a bundeschampion in 2013, is by the leading eventing sire and Contender son, Contendro I, who is number one in the 2017 World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) eventing sire rankings. Contendro I is also the sire of the German top-level horses Cato 60 (Claas Romeike) and FRH Corrida (Andreas Dibowski), and Mark Todd’s 2012 Olympic horse NZB Campino.
Chipmunk is the second of six offspring born to his Hanoverian head studbook dam, Havanna, who is by the thoroughbred Heraldik, a former number one sire who still features in the WBFSH top
10. Havanna is out of the head studbook mare Ramina and by the influential “sire of the century” Ramiro Z, at one time the most used stallion in Germany. Ramiro Z is also the damsire of Contender.
Campino 369, the first offspring of Havanna — and Chipmunk’s older full-brother — competed to three-star with German young rider Rebecca Engel. Havanna’s 2012 daughter Spicy Girl by Stakkato was fourth in the Hanoverian loose-jumping competition for three-year-olds in 2015, and Havanna’s 2014, 2015 and 2017 foals are all also by Contendro I.
