FIRST HICKSTEAD WIN
Newoak Jester
KATE HEWSON and Newoak Jester (Bill), pictured, ticked off yet another box when they clinched the mini heritage M&M Pretty Polly tricolour after heading their first ridden class.
While this was the pair’s first Hickstead win and championship, they are no strangers to success.
After coming off the lead-rein at the end of 2014, Kate has ridden Bill side-saddle, the pair gaining places at Windsor and Cranley and qualifying for the forthcoming championships.
They are also British Young Riders Dressage Scheme (BYRDS) dressage fledglings and they have qualified for the regionals.
Bill belongs to Lynne Mastroianni, who runs Kingston Riding Centre, where Kate learnt to ride.
Kate’s mother Emma persuaded Lynne to let them take Bill to shows — and the rest is history.
“He is a fabulous pony who does everything, including jumping,” said Kate.
Kara Arnold took the supreme Pretty Polly championship riding her 133cm show hunter pony winner Annandale Motivator.
While Kara is in her third season riding the Soudley Taliesin 11-year-old, this is their first home-produced season.
“I’m enjoying doing him before and after school. We do lots of hacking at home and we hunt with the South Wold,” said 12-year-old Kara.
