Heavy defeat for Amateurs

AFTER A free week, Nuneaton Thursday League Division one leaaders Atherstone continued their great form with a comfortabl­e win at Bulkington. The visitors lost just the one wicket as Sam Kinson with 44 and Ed Smith, 70no got them to 123-1 off a reduced 16 overs. Bulkington were always behind the 8 ball and despite 26 from Luke Church they ended well short on 92-8 with the wickets shared between the bowlers.

Nuneaton remain second after beating Bedworth at Weddington Rd. Bedworth looked to be in with a great chance after posting 167-4. Ross Parnell top scored with 79no supported by Faizan Abdullah with 50. Martin Cox got the home side’s reply off to a good start eventually falling for 50 but skipper, Jordan Gilkes was unbeaten at the end on 42 with Nuneaton reaching the total 4 down with 3 balls to spare.

Hinckley Amaters stay as one of four teams on just four points after a heavy defeat at Ambleside. Sunair Siddique Khan scored 50 out of a modest total of 105-3 off 16 over for the home team. The visitors were quickly in trouble and consistent­ly lost wickets ending all out for 52. Tom Randle was the pick of the home bowlers with 4-8.

In Division Two the match of the day saw Bedworth 2’s and Nuneaton 2’s tie. In a match reduced to 16 overs a side Bedworth got off to a steady start but Lakshmi Pathanjale­eswaran with 33 and Adam Bourne, 21no got them up to 103-5. Nuneaton also found runs hard to come by and steadily lost wickets but Oli Osborn and Paul Lovick came together at 71-8 and put on 32 for the 9th wicket. Lovick needing two to win off the last ball just managed a single seeing the sides finish with two points each.

Atherstone 2’s just came out on top in a close match at home to Collycroft.

Griff and Coton remain level on points with Collycroft at the bottom of the table as they lost at home to Stockingfo­rd Haunchwood.

This week there are two cup finals. On Friday (July 8) at 6.30pm Ambleside take on Fillongley in the final of the prestigiou­s Tommy Hilditch Cup at Attleborou­gh CC.

Then on Tuesday July 12 also at 6:30pm Bulkington take on Nuneaton 2’s at Bedworth CC. in the Albert Robbins Memorial Rose Bowl.

All are more than welcome to attend and the league are hoping for some great weather and good crowds for these exciting finals.
