Mezzo soprano to appear in concert
AN INTERNATIONAL mezzo soprano will be singing at a Hinckley church.
Gayathrie Patrick will be joined by her husband William as he accompanies her on piano for their concert at St Mary’s Church.
The couple are based on Northamptonshire but Gayathrie is originally from Sri Lanka, and moved to London to study music.
She did a course at the Royal Academy of Music where she graduated with a Bachelor of Music Diploma.
The singer has won many award including International Young Singer of the Year at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.
She has also won first prizes for opera, recital and lieder competitions affiliated with the British Federation of Music.
Her wide repertoire ranges from principal roles in opera, oratorio and musical theatre to a guest appearance at the variety show “Sunday Night at the London Palladium”.
William was born in Scotland and has considerable experience as an accompanist.
He met Gayathrie while touring in Sri Lanka and encouraged her to travel to London to fulfil her potential as an opera singer. They have given concerts throughout the UK, Europe, Australia and Sri Lanka.
Their programme in Hinckley will include many wellknown songs and arias from the worlds of opera, song and the silver screen.
The duo will be in action at the concert, hosted by St Mary’s Arts, on Wednesday November 6 at 1pm.
Tickets on the door are £4 for adults and £1 for students and children.
