CHRIS Mason completed a hat trick of wins in Lychgate Fisheries Sunday Open’s after drawing the same peg, peg 42, on all three occasions! In extremely difficult weather conditions Chris fished close in, and caught fish, including a near 5lb tench through out the match to finish with 32lb 6ozs.

Alan Robertshaw finished second with a level 23lb catch while Guy Hope came third with 22lb 8ozs.

After cancelling Thursday’s Open match at Higham Lane due to thick ice, Saturday’s match was going to be hard.

Chris Whyte wasn’t complainin­g though after catching a respectabl­e 38lb 11ozs on bomb and corn tactics from peg 21 to win. Alan Grewcock finished second , using similar tactic’s to weigh 26lb 9ozs, while Andy Findlay’s 23lb 9oz third place catch included a near 10lb carp.

Shackersto­ne’s Open match was pegged along the straight down from Station Bend, and again anglers found the fish tightly shoaled up, always with the three middle pegs filling the top three places. Hubert Noar made the journey from Rugby worthwhile as he took the honours with a level 1lb catch of small roach on bread punch. Roger Pickering finished second with 14ozs of small roach while Doug Dimbleby came third with 9ozs.

Despite snow on the ground and breaking ice Chris Duffy won Lychgate Fisheries mid week Open with a superb 71lb 6oz catch. Drawn on peg 37 Chris pole fished bread punch to catch around 30lb of bream and over 40lb of carp to finish well clear of his brother Robin who finished second with 22lb 14ozs. Glyn Davies came third with 18lb 12ozs.

Thick ice covering the Lakes greeted those die hards who turned out to fish Maynes Lakes midweek Open and after a session of ice breaking many wished that they hadn’t bothered!

Doug Stains used maggot and pinkie baits to tempt a few fish, taking the honours with just 3lb 4ozs from peg 32 on Lake One.

Higham Lane Fishery have an Open match every Thursday and Saturday, draw for both at 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have Open matches on Saturday and Sunday, draw 9.15am.

Shackersto­ne have an Open match this Sunday, draw 7.45am at the Rising Sun.

Maynes Lakes have an Open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an Open match every Wednesday, draw 9am.
