VOLUNTEERS are being sought for a charity giving homeless adults a new start in life.

Hinckley-based Emmaus Leicestershire and Rutland offers accommodation and work to up to 16 people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion, from its base at Elm Lea on Ashby Road.

Its companions work at the charity’s fundraising stores and cafe in the town, which are also supported by volunteers.

She said: “I had never really been much of a charity shop shopper but this really blew me away.

“The more I learnt from talking to the companions and staff, the more I loved what this charity stood for.

“I love my time at Emmaus and really feel part of the whole thing.

“It’s a fantastic charity that helps people in the right way.”

Emmaus Leicestershire and Rutland business manager Matt Taylor said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to all our volunteers.

“Volunteering is a good way to meet new people, no previous experience is needed and it’s a great way to pick up new skills, whether you’re just starting out in work, looking for a new challenge or taking your career in a new direction.

“All that’s required is a smile and willingness to roll up your sleeves to help us out.”
