TWO local anglers teamed up to win Measham’s Open Pairs contest fished along the canal around Snarestone.

Hinckley’s Ashby Canal legend Doug Dimbleby and Barwell’s singing fisherman Johnny Gamble got a perfect score of just two points, John winning what was an unexpected­ly hard match with a 1lb 8oz catch from the Globe section while Doug won the Green Lane section with a 1lb 2oz catch of small fish.

Two other Hinckley anglers finished second, as Kev Milne and Rob Bream totalled five points. Maurice Smith and Hubert Noar from Rugby came third with seven points.

Andy Findley took the honours in last week’s Lychgate Fisheries Saturday open contest. “The Fin” used pellet feed- er tactics to land 68lb 12oz of carp. Steve Brindley finished second landing 64lb 14oz on pole fished pellet. Suzi Smith came second with 54lb 8oz with Steve Zseli finishing fourth with 51lb 14oz.

Mill on the Soar’s Tuesday open contest was won by Terry Sanderson with a 43lb 15oz catch on bomb and pellet tactics. Tom Watt finished second with 38lb 6oz. Jim Spradbury pole fished pellet to take third place with a 31lb 7oz bream and carp catch.

Higham Lane’s Thursday open was won by Guy Hope who pole fished paste to catch 74lb 11oz of carp. Graham Beckworth weighed 66lb 11oz to take second place with Duncan Worrall finishing third with 64lb.

Maynes midweek open was won by John Newton who fished pellet close to the far bank to catch 67lb 12oz. Results; Pool One, section One, Terry Stevenson, 42lb. Section two; John Newton, Pool Two, Section Three; Pete Whitby, 24lb 8oz. Section Four; Colin Bent, 38lb 12oz.

Brookfield’s Sunday open match at Stoke Golding was won by Stu Campton who caught 39lb of carp. Ray Lewis finished second with 28lb while David Sutton took third place with a 26lb 12oz catch. Brookfield’s next open will be on Sunday October 2, draw 9am.

Higham Lane Fishery had a Saturday open match following a club match cancellati­on. Taking advantage was Paul Gardner who took the honours with a 74lb 6oz catch of carp. Steady Eddie Sharrad landed 66lb on method feeder tactics to take second place. Andy Findley was third with 64lb 9oz.

The fifth round of the Pete Hogg Memorial match was fished above the tunnel at Snarestone on the Lazzines section.

In-form “canal ace” Kev Milne landed a 2lb bream in his match winning 2lb 4oz catch. Doug Dimbleby weighed 1lb 15oz of small perch to take second place with Alan Dixon finishing third with 1lb 5oz.

Lychgate’s Sunday open was won by Steve Brindley who pole fished pellet to weigh 76lb 12oz. Runner-up Mark Sidwells also pole fished pellet to weigh 69lb 10oz. Steve Oswick finished third with 43lb 14oz while Danny Ross claimed fourth place with a 41lb 4oz catch.

Lychgate Fisheries have a open match every Saturday, draw 9am, and Sunday, draw noon.

The sixth round of the Pete Hogg Memorial takes place this Saturday on Shackersto­ne waters, draw 1pm at the Rising Sun.

Mill on the Soar Fishery have an open match every Tuesday, draw 8.30am.

Maynes Fishery have an open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an open match every Wednesday, draw 9am.
