Open air shows with a dramatic backdrop

Performanc­es planned at Bradgate Park

A FULL programme of events has been announced to take place in The Ruins of Bradgate Park House over summer.

A series of national and local companies will travel to Leicesters­hire, offering a range of open air theatre and live Proms music.

The programme started on Sunday, with Chapter House Theatre Company’s production of Wuthering Heights.

Chapter House Theatre Company will also be returning to the park with Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervill­es on Sunday August 14 at 5pm.

The 2016 season also has two new additions of the Bradgate Park Proms and also daytime family theatre in the summer holidays.

The Proms Spectacula­r will include a concert with Leicesters­hire’s Bardi Wind Orchestra on Saturday July 16. The evening will include popular and traditiona­l music ranging from movies and TV themes to traditiona­l sea shanties and proms music. It will start at 8pm and culminate in a light show and wildlife friendly pyrotechni­cs, all set against the home of Lady Jane Grey.

Family theatre will also come to Bradgate on Saturday and Sunday August 11 and 12 with Quantum Theatre’s adaptation of Beatrix Potter’s Once Upon a Time There Were Four Little Rabbits. The performanc­es will take place at 11am and 2.30pm and will celebrate 150 years of Beatrix Potter.

Peter Tyldesley, director at Bradgate Park Trust, said: “The Ruins are a perfect venue for a family picnic as park of a great day out within the park. Our summer season of shows and performanc­es offer something for everyone.”

For all music and theatre events doors open before the performanc­es start and audiences can bring a picnic a picnic and their own rugs or seating. Events will go ahead regardless of the weather.
