Outlet in Hinckley will be Meatcure’s fifth

A BRAND new concept in burger joints is heading to Hinckley as part of the £60 million retail and lesiure development at The Crescent.

Meatcure will open this autumn offering its own unique eating and drinking ethos, based around “original food and drink with great people and a quality soundtrack”.

Run by business partners and pals Paul Rigby and Rob Martyniak, Meatcure has been causing quite a stir on the Midlands social scene since opening its first outlet in Market Harborough.

Hinckley will be the small chain’s fifth restaurant to launch in two years with a recently mounted crowdfunding initiative now aiming to raise £450,000 to establish a further five across a similar timescale.

Rob, 38, who has worked in all areas of the hospitality business for the last 23 years, said: “We had been looking at Hinckley for some time and felt it would be a success story. Then the guy who runs the Clarendon diner came to us and ate and said ‘you have to go to Hinckley’.

“There’s the great leisure centre on the old council office grounds and The Crescent which is attracting non-high street brands. You have Prezzo and the independent Italian. We looked at costs and I think we fell in love with what Hinckley will be.

“As we stand we have agreed in principle a deal to be in The Crescent and be at the centre of it all. We love this market town culture and we want to stick around the Midlands.”

Meatcure’s origins lie in burger vans feeding festi- val-goers and Paul continues to ply that trade. With a busy summer ahead and a new opening in Bedford the entrepreneurs decided it was best left until September time for Hinckley’s operation.

Once signed and sealed the family friendly restaurant with its pared-down interior will deliver seriously meaty burgers with movie-themed names such as Carlito’s Way and Raging Bull.

There’s salads, flat iron steaks, shakes and sundaes as well as canned and draught beer, cider, wine and cocktails.

Rob said: “For us it’s about being fiercely independent and individual. do not compare. It’s really about quality and great, genuine people.”

While the guys at Meatcure have been happy to talk about their plans for Hinckley, bosses at The Crescent have been a little more circumspect, simply offering this statement from Tony Baker of the Tin Hat Partnership: “We are in talks with several operators around the remaining units at The Crescent with some at a very advanced stage. GHM! will be opening in June but we are unable to reveal any more names at this stage.

“Deals have been agreed on a number of units and we do hope to be able to make announcements shortly.”
