Mrs Hinch to clean up Strictly
The BBC is chasing the cleaning star
If you’re looking for someone to wipe the floor with other competitors and sweep up all those votes (enough cleaning puns?), then look no further than Sophie Hinchliffe. BBC bosses are apparently desperate to sign up the Instagram star, best known for her cleaning tips, for the 2019 series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Sophie, 29 – aka Mrs Hinch – has 2.3million followers and is a leading light in the “cleanfluencing” movement. The sevenmonths pregnant star, who was previously a hairdresser in Essex, shot to fame after launching her sparkling profile two years ago, appearing on This Morning as a cleaning expert and releasing the instantly bestselling book Mrs
Hinch: Hinch Yourself Happy earlier this month. Last week, BBC sources reported, “The country is obsessed with Mrs Hinch, and they think she would be a perfect fit. She has a great personality and is superglamorous, too, so [she] would be perfect in all the glitzy costumes.”
It follows the megasuccess of social media star Joe Sugg on last summer’s series, where he came second, going on to win every show on the Strictly Live Tour. The insider added, “[The producers] are keen to keep the show current, and loved the influx of extra fans they got with vlogger Joe.”
Sophie – whose followers are known as the “Hinchers” and the “Hinch Army” – recently said on This Morning, “My life’s completely changed, but I’m trying to keep it all as normal as possible.”
But with Strictly now beckoning, that’s looking less and less likely. ■
