KID CHLOE’S GOLD DREAM

Young boxer is aiming high at GB championships

Teenage boxing sensation Chloe Bodwick is aiming to bring home the gold after being selected to represent Scotland at the Great Britain 3 Nations School Championships in Cardiff next month.

Last year, in her debut appearance for Scotland, Chloe (14) beat the English champion in the semi-final of the championships at the Regional Sports Facility in Ravenscraig.

However, she was denied gold by a freak eye injury in the first round of the final against the Welsh champion.

This time, her coaches at O’neils ABC in Cambuslang are confident that Chloe can make history for the club by becoming their first British female champion. She is already their first-ever Scottish female champion and was the first female to fight at the club’s home show at Blantyre Miners last year.

Hamilton-born Chloe said “I want to go one better than last year and win gold.

“I felt I was able to win at Ravenscraig but the injury kept me from showing what I am capable of.

“My coaches at O’neils and Boxing Scotland have been brilliant, working me hard and preparing me for this. “I can’t wait!” Brian Murphy, head coach at O’neils, said: “Chloe could have won last year if it wasn’t for the injury. She hasn’t had many bouts this year but she has been working hard in the gym and is looking sharp and strong.”

Mum Donna said: “We are extremely proud of Chloe. Despite not having as many competitions this year, she has dug in and worked extremely hard.

“Her dedication is incredible, out running in all weathers and continually working with her coaches on her technique to better herself all the time.”

The championships are being held at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff on July 28 and 29.
