Hamilton internet singing sensation William Boyle is set to entertain the crowds at Larkhall’s Christmas lights switch-on this Friday.

William, from Little Earnock, became an online celebrity after being secretly filmed singing opera on a train, last year.

The 25-year-old was returning home after a works’ night out when he was egged on by a group of strangers to join them in a singalong on the last train to Hamilton.

Passengers were shocked into silence when the former Earnock High pupil started to belt out the Pavarotti classic Nessun Dorma.

The famous footage of William’s performance had hundreds of thousands of views and shares on social media.

But, unknown to his fellow travellers, William, who regularly sings in The Tap Room, learned the 1990 hit from watching Pavarotti videos and listening to the song on his ipod.

William noticed Larkhall Community Council’s Facebook page requesting local talent and got in touch to offer his services.

Larkhall Community Council secretary Sheena Campbell said: “We were delighted to accept his offer and I’m sure Larkhall will give him a big welcome.”

William will also be joined on stage with Larkhall singer Angel Gold.

There will be a funfair in King Street with craft stalls, tombola, fun and games in both Trinity Church Hall and YMCA hall from 4pm to 7pm.

Sheena added: “Santa will be in his Grotto, aided by his elves, to hand out presents to the children.

“The lights will be switched on at 6pm by a primary one pupil from each of Larkhall’s six primary schools.

“Mickey and Minnie Mouse will be there and they love to have their photographs taken with children. Come along and make this Community Event a success.”
