Raising vital money is a piece of cake

-

Macmillan Cancer Support’s Hamilton fundraising group hosted their annual coffee morning and raised over £900.

Joan Mccallum, along with the rest of the team, organised their World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event at Cadzow Parish Church.

And dozens of people popped in to enjoy tea, coffee and cake and raise money for the cancer charity.

The team pushed their fundraising limits this year and even had lots of Macmillan Cancer Support merchandise and Christmas cards on sale to help raise funds.

As ever, this year’s coffee morning received huge support from the community and a tremendous £922 was raised during the two hours – beating last year’s sum of £886.

The Hamilton Fundraising Group were established in 1988 and have raised over £550,000 since then.

Organiser Joan, who has been fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support for 29 years, said it was another great event.

She said: “We had a very successful coffee morning and raised the magnificent sum of £922 for this very worthwhile charity.

“I really appreciate everyone’s efforts. Your support is very much appreciated.

“We hold various other events throughout the year and encourage others to take part too.

”Not only does it generate money for a superb charity but it brings people together for a couple of hours.”

The fundraising veteran also told the Advertiser that the group have other fundraising events planned, especially closer to Christmas time.

She said: “On December 11 we will hold another popular festive event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

“We usually have local choirs come along and sing and it really is a great day.”

The Hamilton Fundraising Group have a busy calendar of fundraising events and would be delighted to hear from anyone willing to spare a few hours, a few times a year and help out.

The group currently consists of around 12 members and would welcome anyone along who is willing to help fundraise for a great cause.

If anyone is interested in joining the fundraising group or would just like to find out further information about upcoming events, please contact Joan Mccallum on 01698 427173.

Macmillan Cancer Support’s biggest fundraising event is taking place this Friday, September 30.

The charity ask people all over the UK to host their own coffee mornings and donations on the day are made to Macmillan.

Last year alone they raised £25 million and this year are aiming to raise even more.

If you can’t take part on September 30, then you can or you can also support the charity by visiting M&S cafes in their Hamilton or Uddingston stores for a cup of coffee or by picking up one of the many treats on offer throughout September that will see much needed funds donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The official event is this Friday, but the charity will support any events that people would like to hold, whatever the date. For more on the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and to get your free World’s Biggest Coffee Morning kit, visit www.coffee.macmillan. org.uk or text SEPT to 70550.
