New leaders at St John Ogilvie High
St John Ogilvie High School have elected their new S6 leadership team for 2016/17.
Following competitive interviews of 27 applicants, the new six-strong team of leaders were elected last Thursday to great acclaim.
The applicants had to submit an application form and prepared a presentation on the theme of ‘leadership’ before being asked a series of questions on aspects of the role of leadership across the school.
After much deliberation, the following team were duly elected: Head Girl is Paula Queen and Depute Girls are Lauryn Alexander and Erin Connor and Head Boy is Joseph Duffy and Deputes are Callum Balfour and Matthew Tierney.
The judging panel comprised Laura Gaddis (PTA President), Shannon Balfour (Head Girl 2015/16), Laura Lawson (Depute head teacher Upper School), Miss Mcclintick (Staff S6 Citizenship Co-ordinator) and S4 leadership students, Ryan Richardson and Emily Cornfield.
Miss Mcclintick commented: “This is the first time I have been involved in this process and it really opened my eyes to the quality of student that we are lucky to have in the school. We could easily have filled these positions three times over.
“I am really looking forward to working with all of the students in the year group over the next year as they take on the numerous citizenship opportunities available to them.”
All 27 students interviewed will form the wider Leadership Team along with about 15 other students who applied for wider leadership positions but declined to be interviewed for formal positions.
Depute Head, Lorna Lawson added: ”this is by far the largest group of S6 who have expressed an interest in forming part of the Wider Leadership Team which is a tremendous reflection on them as a group.
“It is a year group which is brimming with leadership potential. Should be a very exciting year for the school.”
