Callous thug killed my beloved Molly

-

A Stonehouse cat owner has slammed a callous thug who killed her beloved pet.

Celina Mcgarry was shocked when her cat, Molly, appeared back home badly injured after being missing for several days.

After a three-day hunt by Celina and her friends and neighbours, Molly returned on Saturday, July 23, struggling to breathe.

Alarmed, Celina rushed the feline to the Clyde Vet Group base in Lanark, where Molly passed away a short time later.

X-rays showed the poor pet’s lungs were full of blood, and her teeth had been smashed.

It is believed Molly’s injuries were consistent with being attacked by a person.

Devastated Celina, of Boghall Street, said: “Molly went missing last Wednesday. She’s an outdoor cat, so in good weather she’d stay out overnight or for long periods.

“When I hadn’t seen her, I went around the neighbours, but no one had seen her since then.

“On Saturday around lunchtime, I spotted her in the garden – she was just lying there. I immediately noticed her breathing was shallow, but I couldn’t see any marks or blood on her.

“I took her straight to the vets in Lanark. I didn’t even think she was going to last long enough to get there. The vet checked Molly over and noted her teeth were all broken and cracked, but she had no broken bones and no obvious sign of injury other than a cut on her side.

“They were concerned about her breathing and kept her in for X-rays. I spoke with them later that evening and they said she had passed away.

“Looking at her X-rays, they could see her chest was full of blood. They reckoned it happened two to three days previously.

“The nurse said there was no way she had been hit by a car, as there was no damage to her claws. She also said as there was no defensive wounds – Molly hadn’t been attacked by another animal.

“She said it was likely a person had done this to my poor cat.” Celina has had an ‘overwhelming’ response to a post she made on Facebook, and thanked those among them, complete strangers - who left comments and messages.

She added: “For someone to batter a defenceless animal so bad her teeth were broken, that she took two days to drag herself home slowly drowning in her own blood makes me sick.

“Molly was a member of our family, and some vile excuse for a human being did this to her.

“Molly was such a friendly cat, and passersby would pet her. I posted details on Facebook and strangers are even commenting to say they would pet her.”
