Halifax BC brothers David and Joe Wilkinson answered an SOS from Mick Bromby of the St Paul’s club, Hull to fight at short notice on a charity show.

The pair both won against opponents from Freedome ABC in Doncaster.

Heavyweight prospect Joe faced Brad Cousins, who had a good record but could not cope with the speed and power of his rival.

The Halifax boxer all but stopped him in the second round and won by technical knockout in the third.

Older brother David faced Nathan Gregory, a fearsome sight with head to foot tattoos.

The first round was even, according to Halifax coach Jonny Maude, but David lifted the pace in the second and went on to a unanimous win.

The brothers box again in Carlisle on April 4 and then at Halifax’s charity show in memory of Martin Lewis for Overgate Hospice on April 25 Jack Sellars got off to a winning start with his new coach, Danny Thornton at the Sharkys BC show at Harehills, Leeds.

Sellars won every round against the 26-year-old Carl Macloud from West Wirral ABC his superior skills giving the judges an easy task.

Jack had more than 50 fights under the guidance of Mick Rowe at Halifax BC and is now looking to transfer into the pro ranks later in the summer at Danny’s newly formed Camp Detox Stable in Leeds. Hebden Bridge BC’s George Standring will fight in the national schoolboy semi-finals at Leicester this weekend.

The 13-year-old, who is in the 13 years 59 to 62kg division, takes on Mitch Ingham from the Northside club, Manchester.

Ingham is unbeaten but so was Brendan Pinnock from the Christ The King BC in Coventry, who Standring beat unanimously in the last eight at Sunderland last Sunday.
