THE work of a group of Inverclyde train station volunteers has been highlighted in a new television advert.

ScotRail has teamed up with broadcaster STV to show passengers how they help make a difference by travelling on the railways.

The new ad, which aired for the first time on Monday night, stars Friends of Wemyss Bay Station member Sheena Inglis, who discusses the group’s second-hand bookshop.

ScotRail’s new campaign aims to highlight the benefit train passengers have on hundreds of businesses, charities and community groups across the network.

A spokesperson for the Friends of Wemyss Bay Station said: “We were delighted to be asked by ScotRail to take part in the new advert.

“We had a good day hosting the film crew and the outcome is excellent.”

The bookshop, which first opened in 2009, carries a wide selection of second-hand books, as well as a limited range of new releases relating to local and transport history.

In the advert, Sheena says: “Having taken on the rooms, we wanted to make them a social hub to encourage people to come to the station regularly and support local authors, local artists, all through secondhand books.

“We never cease to be amazed at the quality of the donations. Our relationship with ScotRail is one of trust.

“We’ve been here for 15 years and they’ve trusted us to get on with the job.” This is not the first time the station has played a role in a TV ad.

In 2017, it provided the setting for Vodafone’s Christmas campaign featuring The Hobbit and Love Actually star Martin Freeman.

The advert sees Freeman fall for a mystery woman on the station platform as she watches the festive classic ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’.
