Tom admits ‘Suri isn’t part of my life’
LAST year, it was reported that Tom Cruise hadn’t seen or spoken to his daughter Suri in more than 1,000 days. Last week, the actor officially admitted, ‘She is no longer part of my life.’
Tom, 55, made the astonishing revelation to an old friend, Maryann Carter, Grazia can reveal. It came after Maryann, who has known Tom since she was a teenager, put pictures of Suri in a private Facebook group called Tom Cruise Media.
She later wrote on the group page, ‘I am going to ask that no one post anything with Suri in the future. She is no longer a part of his life. If you do, I will erase it. If you continue I will have to remove you. Thanks!’
When someone asked if this included old photos, she added, ‘No photos. His request.’
The pair grew up close to each other (Maryann in Mayfield, Kentucky, and Tom in Louisville) and have known each other since Tom dated Maryann’s friend Diane Cox. Maryann now runs the Facebook group, which has 3,300 followers.
It comes after months of speculation that Tom’s relationship with Suri, 11, his only biological child, from his marriage to Katie Holmes, is non-existent (they were last pictured together in 2012).
Last year, one source claimed the pair ‘used to Skype and text, but that trailed off drastically’. The more common view is that Tom’s continued devotion to Scientology is behind their estrangement.
It has been reported that Tom has been ‘ brainwashed into believing that an “evil spirit” [ known as a Thetan] is controlling Suri’. A second source last year alleged that David Miscavige, the leader of the church, ‘would have hammered home to Tom that Suri has been infiltrated by a bad Thetan, which has become trapped in her human body. Therefore, it’s easy for Tom to disconnect from her.’
One former member of the Church’s security team, who wanted to remain anonymous, told Grazia, ‘He will have been convinced that Suri is a “bad” daughter and has turned against him. They will be estranged for the rest of their lives.’
