COOKING APPLIANCES

-

The GHI’S appliance and household testing manager, Katie Mortram, joined the team four years ago as a junior tester and has worked her way up. She’s evaluated every kind of product you can imagine, from vacuum cleaners to toning belts and Christmas trees! In the last year alone, she and her team have reviewed almost 500 products, washing more than 1,000kg of laundry to test washing machines and washer dryers, boiling more than 460 litres of water to find the best kettles and toasting some 2,000 slices of bread to bring you our winning toasters!

She enjoys the variety involved in her role. ‘No two days in this department are the same,’ says Katie. ‘The range of products we test is so expansive. Whether you’re interested in things that help speed up the cooking process or want to know which baking tool will make your cake a masterpiece, we’ve tested and reviewed them all.’ The strangest item she’s tested? ‘Prams. Nothing is quite so strange as walking around London with a pram full of potatoes to represent the weight of a baby!’

Katie and her team have tested almost 500 products in the last year alone!

Katie is always interested in the latest innovations and loves smart gadgets, such as the De’longhi Primadonna Class coffee machine. It connects to your smart device via Bluetooth and can be controlled from an app, which is perfect for making sure your first cup of coffee is ready as soon as you get out of bed in the morning.
