The idea behind the raffle stems from the fact that schools across the country have lost as much as £42 million in fundraising this year due to the pandemic, with state schools in England facing “the worst decline in funding since the 1980s”.
So the Friends of Swell School (FOSS) decided to host the biggest fundraising event the school has ever seen.
With a new build on the horizon, and vital funds required, FOSS appealed to local businesses and supporters to donate thousands of pounds worth of prizes, creating the ultimate digital Christmas fundraiser, A Swell Christmas Raffle.
Nadia Moule, vice chairman for FOSS, said: “Being such a small village school, we’re really quite limited when it comes to fundraising, yet our children still require and deserve an enriched education, like any other school in the country.
“That’s why we set out to make Christmas 2020 really special. We are overwhelmed by the kindness of local businesses and supporters, and hope their generosity is rewarded by raising record funds.”
