Ibrox four make up shortlist for player gong

RANGERS quartet Allan McGregor, James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and Steven Davis have been nominated for the Scottish Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award.

The champions will lift their first Premiership title in a decade when they host Aberdeen later this month and the top-flight silverware is not the only prize that will head to Ibrox this term.

Steven Gerrard is in the running for the Manager of the Year award, while Nathan Patterson has made the shortlist for the Young Player of the Year prize and both face stiff competition to land a gong.

But the main individual award will definitely be won by one of Gerrard’s main men as Rangers dominate the list of nominees to be crowned Scotland’s top performer this season.

McGregor has been made headlines throughout the campaign with a string of stunning saves and his clean sheet record has been an integral part of Rangers’ success in recent months.

It will be skipper Tavernier who lifts the silverware as Rangers look to avoid defeat against Livingston and Aberdeen and clinch an Invincible league campaign in the year title 55 was secured.

The right-back has scored 18 goals across all competitions and was in the running to be top scorer this term before suffering a knee injury against Royal Antwerp in February.

Vice-captain Goldson would assume the armband in Tavernier’s absence and the Englishman has enjoyed his finest season at Ibrox as he has produced a series of outstanding showings.

That can be said for Davis, too, and the midfielder - who has also agreed an extension to his Ibrox contract – completes the shortlist at the end of a historic season that has seen him produce some of his finest football for Rangers.
