Do they know how bad things are in city?

- Duncan Lucas Via email

INOTE the leader of the council saying Glasgow should unite to build a cleaner and greener city. am looking forward to seeing world leaders, academics, councillors and tourists visit Glasgow. They can visit the city centre which is full of addicts and alcoholics walking around begging for money.

They can take a tour to other wards while avoiding the potholes, the broken lights and take pictures of bundles of fly- tipped material on every corner while admiring the horrendous graffiti.

In all my years as a citizen of Glasgow, I have never seen the leader of the council visit different wards and take a walk about to see how bad things really are instead of sitting in their ivory tower at the city chambers.

AND so it begins, yet another early exposure to the booming and banging of premature fireworks being set off by the morons of society.

These idiots are terrifying pets, children, the elderly and others by being allowed to buy fireworks and this is why the general public should be banned from buying these incendiary devices from shops, markets etc.

The only fireworks that should be set off are the ones in a councilrun bonfire and fireworks display.

Every year we are told by our government that it will ensure tighter regulations on the sale of fireworks and yet here we are again having to put up with our pets climbing the walls in terror.

I think that the only way that Holyrood or Downing Street will listen to the people is if those of us whose pets have to be sedated via drugs, scents, special coats etc, which isn’t cheap, should present our receipts for reimbursement to Ms Sturgeon and Mr Johnson and the same for any injuries to humans or animals caused by the inactivity of said ministers and their minions to stop this dangerous annual occurrence.

I AM glad I am not a friend of your golf correspondent as I would be “in fear “of voicing an opinion that did not agree with Nick’s on matters political ( Jack Nicklaus’ support for Donald

Trump dents image of Golden Bear, Glasgow Times, Tuesday). In the early 70s I visited the R& A in St Andrews to watch an Open which included Jack Nicklaus.

At the close and among a crowd at the 19th hole I tried to get a photo of him but was blocked. Jack saw my problem, pushed the crowd aside and let me take a photo of him. After all the arrogance you see in “celebrities”, a nicer- kinderthoughtful individual I have never met, and he was born at the same time/ day as my wife and we have been together for 48 years.
