Shock over plans for East End landfill site

- Jock McWhir Dalmarnock Name and address supplied

IWAS shocked to read of plans to extend the height of the landfill at Patersons in the East End. We have had to put up with the smell and the state of it for far too long as it is.

Now it is going to be extended for another four years?

It is a nightmare and not good enough for people in the East End – although it is typical we are an afterthought as always!

EVER since masks have become mandatory, all I’ve seen strewn across pavements and roads are the little blue disposable masks.

If people aren’t able to get a reusable face mask, there is nothing wrong with using these but why are they being left in the street instead of being disposed of properly? Not only do our streets look worse for it, but it’s a health hazard too. We’ve been lambasted with recycling messages for the past few years, but folk seem to think that masks are exempt from this and they can be thrown to the floor with no care.

I HAVE to say I’m a little disappointed with the result of the Labour leader elections.

When Frank McAveety announced his departure, it sounded like there would be some new blood coming into the party.

A lot of the older politicians from the SNP have stepped aside for the 2021 election and I think that’s a good thing. We need young people with vision to steer our country forward.

I fear Labour will never make the progress it needs to if veteran politicians don’t learn when to step aside.

I WAS delighted to read that Councillor Thomas Kerr has called on the council to clear the drains in the East End.

The flooding was terrible last week during the rain – there is clearly a problem to be fixed. The fact London Road had to close was a disgrace.

I NOTE the council’s reply in Friday’s Glasgow Times about the situation with a return to a free bulk uplift service.

I have couches, mattresses and fridges sitting on every corner of my neighbourhood, on a Friday and Saturday night they are magnets for attracting more antisocial behaviour.

I don’t want to live in a landfill tip. I get the feeling the council are hiding behind Covid- 19 and finding even more excuses for not doing things.
