Cards on the table for Marc at Q-school

-

GLASGOW golfer Marc Warren faces his most important round of the season today as he tries to regain his European Tour card in the closing 18 holes of the qualifying school final at Lumine in north east Spain.

The triple tour champion bolstered his assault in the six-round shoot-out with a timely five-under 66 which hoisted him to within a shot of the card-winning places.

The leading 25 and ties after today’s final round will earn a category for the 2019 Race to Dubai and Warren’s 14-under tally of 343 has him right in the mix.

The former World Cup winner is back at the q-school for the first time since 2010 after a fairly dismal year on the main circuit.

But the 37-year-old is hopeful that his patient approach throughout the week will reap the ultimate reward when the tour cards are getting dished out later in the day.

“It was just a really solid round of golf in tricky conditions,” said Warren of his six-birdie card. “That last five days have just been about giving yourself a chance. Whether you are outside the mark or inside it, you have to stay patient.

“Sometimes you think you need to get to 20-under or something and you try to get there too quickly. That patience is a big thing over six rounds.”

Warren’s fellow Scot Duncan Stewart also posted a 66 to keep his hopes alive on 345 but Craig Ross (350) and Connor Syme (352) are well out of the running after costly one-over 72s.

Zander Lombard of South Africa, Frenchman Romain Langasque and Kurt Kitayama of the USA share the lead with 21-under aggregates.
