Festival fun for gig-goers
TENS of thousands of music fans enjoyed a scorching weekend at TRNSMT and Kelvingrove Fiesta fold festivals.
Nile Rodgers and Chic headlined the West End event while Stereophonics, Liam Gallagher and Arctic Monkeys rocked the huge crowds at Glasgow Green.
WEST End festival-goers enjoyed glorious sunshine in the city’s Kelvingrove Park for the hotly anticipated Fiesta X FOLD weekend.
The likes of Nile Rodgers and CHIC, Earth Wind and Fire, De La Soul, and the Pointer Sisters took to the stage for the popular event.
Basking in the Glasgow heatwave, revellers danced Saturday away to Pointer Sisters’ hits Jump and I’m So Excited, before finishing with Earth Wind and Fire’s Boogie Wonderland.
The day didn’t go without a hitch as sound and technical issues plagued performances on the main stage, while the likes of DJ Maseo and Andrew Devine kept the crowd going in the Block Party stage. Yesterday, Nile Rodgers and CHIC made a return to the main stage, this time as the closing act.
Dubbed the “nicest man in music”, fans were keen to see the legendary singer perform in the city and he was just as keen, telling the crowd he was excited to visit the city following his sell-out date in the venue last year.
Speaking ahead of the festival, he said: “We are so excited to be coming back to Glasgow and to performing alongside some of my great friends and collaborators in this beautiful park.
“We had such an amazing time performing in the bandstand last year, the atmosphere was just off the scale.
“I appreciate the fans in Glasgow being patient while we put a great line up together.
“I’ve always had strong women in my band and I’m proud to be joined by the wonderful Emeli Sande, Laura Mvula, Morcheeba and Ana Matronic all of whom I’m delighted to share a stage with.”
Sensational Scottish singer Emeli Sande performed her fan-favourites with an hour-and-15 minute set, following on from electropop icons Goldfrappe.
Angles kicked off the afternoon in the Block Party Stage before The Reflex ended the show – and the weekend – with a crowd-pleasing set.
