Aberkenfig Allotments: The Aberkenfig Allotment Associatio­n shop is situated in the allotments at Sandfields Road Aberkenfig.

It’s open every Sunday from 10am-noon with a variety of products at good prices on sale.

If you fancy growing your own vegetables then the waiting list for an allotment is now very short.

Smyrna Penyfai: The Sunday school would like to invite the children of the surroundin­g area who are aged four and over to join them on Sunday morning, from 10.30am -noon for stories, singing and fun with arts and craft work.

All are very welcome to the service and to join for refreshmen­ts in the vestry afterwards.

Coffee morning is held on Tuesday, from 10am-noon with good company and a raffle is also held in aid of local charities.

Bible study takes place on Thursday evening at 7.15pm and is led in turn by Mrs Marlyn James and Miss Dorithy Evans.

Easter Family Crafts: Easter chicks and Easter egg collecting bags. Have great fun with your family making Easter chicks from egg boxes and Easter egg collecting bags. Hospital Service: The next Hospital Christian Fellowship service at the Princess of Wales Hospital will be held this Friday, April 21, in the Hospital Chapel with Matt Smith from Bridgend leading the 3pm service.

Local History: Bridgend Local and District History Society have now finished their autumn and winter sections with their annual AGM.

The chairman and secretary, remain the same, the treasurer Charles Thorp has said he will stand down next year, two members join the committee Cheryl Hart and Ian Price who will handling research queries.

The new season will start on Wednesday, September 13, at 7pm with Allan Underhill giving an illustrate­d talk on the subject of Images of Bridgend.

Registrati­on will also be held on the same evening and the joining fee still stands at £7 and visitors £2.

Ladies Guild: The Ladies Guild at Hope Baptist Church, Station Hill will resume after their Easter break on Thursday, April 24, at 2.30pm with Mrs Joyce Pegg who will entertain the ladies with a talk on the subject of the National Garden Scheme.

The ladies meet in Hope Institute, Derwen Road, and all are welcome.

Oil Workshop: An Oil Painting Workshop for beginners and all abilities will be held at Carnegie House (former Library) Wyndham Street this Saturday, April 22 from 10am-4pm, fee will be £12. The tutor will be Bryan Shambler and the theme will be Dipping Bridge, Merthyr Mawr with Brush and painting knife.

War Memorial Project: A project is about to start with identifyin­g the local men who are remembered on our War Memorial in Dunraven Place who fell during WWII.

Bridgend Communitie­s First: A free learning Welsh morning will be held at Carnegie House on Tuesday, April 25 between 10am and 12pm. Come along and built your confidence in speaking basic Welsh.

No prior knowledge needed, just a passion to learn.

Also, Bridgend Communitie­s First are holding a free Flower arranging session at Wildmill Community Centre on Thursday April 27 from 1pm -3pm.

Come along and learn the skills of flower arranging and learn how to design and make a beautiful bouquet.

Coffee Mornings: These continue every Friday and Saturday, from 10am-12noon at Bridgend United Church Tondu Road all are very welcome. Go along and enjoy a lovely cuppa with friendly people and of course all are very welcome.

Step Back in Time: On Saturday June 10, Bridgend will step back in time to WWII.

The Town centre will be transforme­d back to the 1940s with demonstrat­ions, period games and activities that were common place during the war and the 1940s.

Many of the activities will be educationa­l for people of all ages. Activities will include WWII Toy Soldier Painting, 1940s cooking Poppy Making, School Life and Period Games and lots more.

Live music entertainm­ent will take place throughout the day.

A Winston Churchill ‘sound’ and ‘look-alike’ will also make an appearance around the town.

There will also be historical guided walks by John Dunkley-Williams, a photograph­ic exhibition by Bridgend and District Local History Society, and a wartime display from Michael Ridley.

This event will be a unique experience in historical terms for the Bridgend area and will be great fun for all the family.

It will be staged throughout Bridgend town centre Saturday, June 10, from 10am-5pm.
