BRIDGEND Town Seconds fell further behind in the title race to Cardiff and Newport after little play was possible against bottom club Aberdare at The Ynys, writes Tony Poole.

It mirrored first-team misfortune with Aberdare, who won the toss and elected to bat, making 17-2 off 6.5 overs before heavy rain arrived.

All Bridgend got out of the clash was eight points and with leaders Cardiff and Newport both winning, Bushy and the boys have a lot of catching up to do during the rest of the season.

They begin that difficult task against Miskin Manor in Newbridge Fields on Saturday.

On the opening day of the season, Town gained a 190-run away win, scoring 329-3 and removing the Manor men for 139.

Former Glamorgan batsman Alistair Dalton hit a sparkling 117 not out, and Thomas Cogbill 83 in the massive Town score.

Miskin Manor stumper Tom Robinson last Saturday produced an astonishing performance against visitors Cardiff.

Out of a Manor total of 219-8, his contribution was a staggering 142, containing four sixes and 18 boundaries.

That was 65% of their runs with Ashley James (15) next best with the bat and extras yielding 32 runs.

But with Miskin then sending down 31 wides and three no balls, they dished the game up to Cardiff, who got 220-7 off 48 overs.

Newport ran up a formidable score of 312-3 at Pentyrch, who in reply were dismissed for 191 in the 43rd over.

That left the placings at the midway point of the campaign reading: Cardiff 152, Newport 138, Bridgend Town 124, Panteg 111, Tondu 103, Miskin Manor 102, Penarth 97, St Fagans 60, Pentyrch 59, Aberdare 44.
