PORTHCAWL & DISTRICT DARTS LEAGUE
THE league held the first of its Finals Nights at the United Services Club on Monday.
The Under-25 singles final was a very good match between Jordan Aston of the Ancient Briton and Evan Jones of the RAFA B.
Aston won 3-0 and had a 100 checkout but the games were much closer than the score suggests.
Nick Winn (Greenacre A) lived up to his name by becoming the first player to win the Over-55s title twice. He defeated Keith Williams of the Prince C 3-0.
The Jubilee Cup Final was closely contested between the holders Greenacre A and Pyle Legion A.
The Legion led 1-0 but the Greenacre came back to win 2-1.
The Knockout Pairs went to Pyle Rugby Club duo Kevin Allen and Haydon Thomas who edged out Ian Pugh and Paul Denyer of the United Services Club A 2-1. Pugh hit a 94 out shot.
One of the best finals was for the Ivor Williams Memorial Shield which is held annually between the Porthcawl League champion and his Kenfig Hill counterpart.
Chris Packman of Porthcawl had a 180 but lost that leg to Jon Tossell of Kenfig Hill who went on to win 3-1.The last final of the night was the Champion of Champions which was a high scoring match between the holder Dan Thompson (Ancient Briton) and Kevin Allen (Pyle RFC A). It see sawed back and forth with Allen getting a 111 checkout and Thompson a 100 out shot. Allen had darts to win but it was Thompson who retained his title 3-2.
The C League singles title was decided with Mark Hearne pf Pyle RFC A beating Chris Prescott (RAFA B) in the first semifinal 2-1. In the first leg of the night, Prescott had a 134 checkout.
Kyle David (Breeze B) defeated Dennis Johnson (Seagull) 2-1 in the other semi-final.
In the final, David had a 140 in every leg yet lost to Hearne 3-1.
