Terrors can compete in Easter Road replay believes gaffer Robbie

-

DUNDEE United manager Robbie Neilson believes their Scottish Cup battle with Hibs will stand them in good stead for the replay in Edinburgh next week.

The Tangerines will travel to the capital next Tuesday to take on the Hibees at Easter Road after the sides couldn’t be separated at Tannadice on Sunday.

Lowland League outfit BSC Glasgow await the winner in the last 16.

Robbie believes his side proved they can compete by earning a 2-2 draw thanks to equalisers from Lawrence Shankland and Louis Appere after Christian Doidge and Martin Boyle strikes.

Now, it’s up to them to show consistency against top opposition.

“Sunday will definitely help us in the replay,” he said.

“I think the key always when a Championship team plays a Premiership team is can you do it consistently? Hibs, Hearts, Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen, they do it week in, week out.

“When you play in the Championship, you can drop down to 60% or 70% at times and still get a result.

“When we go to Easter Road we have to be at it again or we’ll get turned over.

“We spoke before the game about the belief that we can go and do it and perform at this level. When you play against top-six teams in the Premiership you have to believe you can compete.

“You can talk about tactics all day and what you’re going to do but the players have to go out there and believe in each other.

“We needed to believe we had enough quality to influence the game and get a result so I’m pleased they did. There were doubts from other people but we showed we can compete.”
