Smith and Pittman in winning finals form

-

AFTER narrowly losing the Handicap Cup Fi nal in t he Dundee and Distrct Badminton League (DABA), Roseangle bounced back with some g reat w i n n i ng shows in t h e DA B A S e n io r Handicap at DISC.

The Mixed Doubles Final was epic as Chris Smith and Fiona Pittman beat clubmates and holders John Dunn and Seona Stalker 21-20, 19-21, 21-18.

Chris was also a winner in the Gents Doubles teaming up with Nico Hadden (Harris). Their path to the final had been relatively straightforward, but they found themselves 16-1 down in the opening set of the final to James McNeil and Jay Ng.

They turned it round to win 21-18 and followed up with a 21-13 win to claim the title.

Prior to being on opposing sides in the mixed doubles, Fiona and Seona teamed up to win the ladies doubles, beating a strong Dunfermline pairing of Rachael McDonald and Lynette Pollock.

In the Miller Hendry Gents Doubles League, it was winner takes all as the top two clashed in the final game of the season.

Sunday Leftovers and Carnoustie Panbride (2) were level on points going into the match, so it was always likely to be a close encounter.

Graham Angus and James Scorgie gave Carnoustie the lead with a 21-9, 21-17 win in the opening game and followed it up with a 21-13, 21-13 win in the second round of games.

With the other two ties being drawn, Carnoustie only needed to draw at least one of the final two matches and drew both to claim the title and a double for the Angus side. Their first team claimed the First Division title.

In the only other game played, a strong Roseangle side had a 3-1 win against Nomads to secure the runners-up spot.

Nico Hadden guested for Roseangle and was their top player with three wins.
