Charlie top of the bill in Elgin
DUNDEE St Francis lightweight Charlie Doig (above) is topping the bill at a show in Elgin on November 24.
He faces the local club’s Andrew Smart.
Both are Scotland internationalists and the bout is one of a number of tough contests Charlie is likely to face this season.
The 20-year-old, who works at Michelin in Dundee, is in Scotland’s Commonwealth Games boxing squad and is hoping to do enough this season to be selected for the Games team for the event next year on the Gold Coast.
St Francis secretary Joe Duffy said: “Charlie is training hard in our gym and also with the Scotland squad. It could be a really good season for him.”
CARLOS Takam is planning to target Anthony Joshua’s body in Saturday’s bout.
Takam stepped in to become Joshua’s challenger in Cardiff at less than a fortnight’s notice following an injury to Kubrat Pulev.
He said: “It will be just as important to work Joshua’s body as well as the head.
“If I can do things differently from what other boxers have done against him, I’ll have a chance to win.”
Joshua’s trainer, Rob McCracken, recognises the lack of notice for their new opponent is “not ideal” but remains confident his previous experience will ensure he is well prepared.
