Warning after spate of crime

-

POLICE in Tayside have reminded the public of the importance of home and vehicle security following a spate of crime across the area.

A sum of cash and car keys were taken from an address in the Charleston area of Dundee between 10pm on Tuesday and 8am on Wednesday after a back door was left unlocked.

During June, two offroad quad bikes were stolen from a residential garage in Broughty Ferry, and another two quad bikes were taken from a garage in the Douglas area.

A quad bike was stolen from an outbuilding on a farm in Inverarity near Forfar, and an outbuilding in Longforgan was targeted when a quad bike was taken.

An off-road motorbike was stolen from a outbuilding in Meigle on July 2.

Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Graham Binnie said:“It is so important that people take their home and vehicle security seriously — day and night, when at home or when they go out. Simple measures often make a big difference. Furthermore, they should keep an eye open for suspicious goings-on in their neighbourhood.

“Lock windows and doors, remove keys from locks and keep them out of reach. Consider fitting intruder alarms, CCTV and good outside security lighting and check regularly to ensure they work.

“For visibility at night, consider sensor-operated lighting which is convenient and an effective deterrent.”
