was “disappointed” to see that the shop was closed, adding: “The closure of the Post Office in particular is disappointing.

“I also run the Post Office in Barnhill, so it might be the case we need to prepare for more footfall in the event of this closure.”

The owner of the Nisa stores declined to comment when approached by the Tele.

A Post Office spokesman apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of Broughty Ferry Post Office.

The spokesman said: “This is due to operational reasons. We are working hard to restore services to the area as soon as possible.

“In the meantime, customers can access Post Office services at any branch, with Barnhill Post Office being the closest alternative.”

Jan McTaggart, business owner and member of the Broughty Ferry Traders’ Association, said: “More importantly for the Ferry is the fact that the shop is home to our main Post Office and there’s a fear that we’ll lose this essential service.”

Kevin Cordell, Broughty Ferry councillor, said: “This is clearly a worrying development, with so many folk in the Ferry relying on the Post Office for a full range of services.

“That is why I have written to Post Office Ltd direct seeking assurance that they are working hard to restore a fulltime service to the centre of Broughty Ferry.”
