Utd’s Robson focused only on Tangerines

- BY GEORGE CRAN

YOUNG full-back Jamie Robson is focused solely on racking up the games for Dundee United after recent rumoured interest in his services from clubs south of the border.

Just last week, English Premier League side Southampton were revealed to have been scouting the 18-year-old left-back.

The Saints youth set-up has been a conveyer belt of talent over the past few years — players like Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Adam Lallana came through at St Mary’s — but Robson isn’t interested in going anywhere.

He said: “You get a wee bit of confidence if teams are looking at you from down south — you must be doing something the right way.

“But at the moment, I’m at United and I’ve no plans of moving at all.

“I’m enjoying my football, I’m playing first-team football so I don’t see a reason why I’d want to move.

“I’m really happy at Dundee United and it’s a great club.”

It’s been an impressive breakthrough season for the youngster after he spent last season out on loan at Brechin City.

And with regular left-back Paul Dixon sidelined for lengthy spells this season, Robson’s had his chance and snapped up the opportunity — the win at Ayr was his 14th of the campaign.

He said: “It’s brilliant, it feels really good to get a good run of games under my belt.

“Hopefully, I can kick on and keep it all going.

“It was really tough to step up at first, playing against bigger men and seasoned pros.

“However, as you get going and get a few games under your belt you start to settle down, you’re not as nervous and you get to understand the game a bit better.

“It just becomes a normality after time.

“When you’re feeling comfortable, you kick on and start to play better and become a better player.”
