Mum thanks laid-off workers for kind gift
LAID-OFF workers at an oil technology firm have donated to a fund for an Angus child who needs a liver transplant.
Former employees at Axon Well Intervention Products donated £85 towards Kenzy Oliver’s fund.
The fundraiser was set up by teachers at Kenzy’s school to assist in the family’s travel costs to be airlifted to King’s College Hospital if a new liver becomes available for the seven-year-old.
Kenzy’s mum, Michelle, said she was grateful to the Axon staff for donating to the cause — despite currently going through hardships themselves.
She said: “The support has been amazing so far — for them to do that was very nice.
“Everyone has been great in donating and reaching out to us to offer their support.”
Kenzy, from Arbroath, is currently categorised as a high priority on the transplant list, due to having contracted biliary atresia — a condition in which inflammation develops within the bile ducts around the time of birth.
During a check-up in hospital, the Warddykes Primary School pupil was found to be suffering from a serious breathing complaint, which was brought on by the condition.
The Olivers now face an agonising wait for a phone call to tell them when a liver is available.
Michelle added: “It is just a case of waiting and hoping for the phone call.
“We just need to keep hopeful — it could be today, next month or a year from now.
“It is the waiting that is the worst, not knowing if the call will come.”
