Scarlett blasts ‘cowardly’ Ivanka for not speaking out against Trump
SCARLETT JOHANSSON has accused Ivanka Trump of cowardice for saying she would keep private any disagreements she had with her president father.
The actress, 32, said the First Daughter was old-fashioned to think she should only use her influence behind closed doors.
In an interview with Ariana Huffington, the Hollywood star criticised Ms Trump for saying this week that “she felt that the greatest change she would make would be behind closed doors and nobody would actually know that she had made this change”.
“How old-fashioned, this idea that behind a great man is a great woman,” Johansson said. “You can’t appear to be concerned that someone is going to think that you are bitchy, or a powerful woman. Screw that, it is so oldfashioned and it is so uninspired and actually really cowardly.”
The actress spoke out at Tina Brown’s Women in the World Summit last night. It followed a US TV interview earlier in the week in which Ms Trump, 35, said she did not understand what it meant to be “complicit” to her father’s actions. “I don’t know that the critics who say that of me, if they found themselves in this very unique and unprecedented situation that I am in now, would do any differently than I am doing,” she said.
Ms Trump has come under fire for insisting she is a “champion of women” while appearing to ignore allegations of sexual assault levelled at her father.
The Women in the World Summit in New York wraps up today. Its aim is to present personal stories of powerful women — and of men who champion women. Other participants included Hillary Clinton, Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon and Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, who spoke about equality.
