Say it with flowers

Whether you want to go bold and bright or opt for delicate restraint, Very’s SS19 collections offer a riot of colour and styles – consider spring dressing sorted

‘Disruption’ may be a term more typically associated with Silicon Valley start-ups, but recent seasons have seen designers rip up the style rule books (and we’re not just talking about the kind of bags that are big enough to carry a picnic in). As a result, SS19 — with its anything-goes-so-long-as-it-packs-some-style-chutzpah approach — has the potential to be one of the most disruptive (and fun) fashion seasons we’ve seen in a long time. Think being given permission to play with your wardrobe like never before – and with the wide variety of new-season collections on offer, Very is the perfect place for you to find style inspiration.

Take the season’s hottest print as an example. Florals: from delicate designs to brash Hawaiian-inspired motifs, our love affair with nature’s bounty doesn’t look like it’s going away anytime soon. The point of difference for SS19, however, is that there’s no single way to wear them — good news for anyone who might be new to the trend.

‘A useful hint is the smaller the floral print, the more understated the look will be,’ notes ELLE’s accessories editor (and stylist on this shoot) Molly Haylor. ‘If you are cautious of pattern but want to commit to the look, start small and simple.’ So why not try a floral accessory, such as a headband or bag – it’s the perfect way to liven up block colour. Then you can gradually introduce more printed pieces (such as a skirt or shirt) as your confidence grows.

Once you’ve dipped your toes into the trend, you can start experimenting – with this new take on florals, the fun lies in stepping outside of your comfort zone. ‘Don’t be afraid to clash patterns,’ says Molly. ‘A small floral print works well with stripes – but keep your handbag and other accessories muted to let the pattern do the talking.’ Before you know it, you’ll be in top-to-toe print… Find out more and shop the spring collections at very.co.uk
