Goals aplenty for YM
East Kilbride YM’s Caledonian League management team watched their players turn in performances that ranged from the ridiculous to the sublime in their first two league matches.
Last Wednesday a dreadful defensive display contributed to a 4-4 draw away to Woodhall Thistle, where Ross McDonagh scored twice along with strikes from Craig Tocher and Anthony Penman. YM keeper Fraser Campbell ensured a share of the points with a penalty save.
Meanwhile, on Saturday a scintillating attacking display ended in a 5-1 win over Rothesay Brandane.
A 10-minute minute hat-trick from midfielder Cammy McCulloch in the first-half was followed by a wonderful team goal, completed by Ross McDonagh. Scott Chaplain’s superb 20-yard free kick gave YM a 5-0 lead at the break before Rothesay plugged away and grabbed a consolation.
Tonight YM face Eaglesham away, kick off 6.30pm, and on Saturday they travel to the Trossachs to play league newcomers Callander Thistle with a 2pm kick off at McLaren High School.
Elsewhere, YM’s GGPL side qualified for the quarter finals of their league cup with a 2-2 draw against Newton Vale on Thursday. Anthony Penman and Scott Anderson were on target.
On Saturday they defeated Busby 6-0 with goals from Scott Campbell (4), Fraser Campbell and Sean Kelly.
