Tax office campaign

A fresh bid to keep HMRC jobs in East Kilbride has been launched following a public meeting at the town’s Ballerup Hall.

Joe Fagan posted:“I was at the public meeting to show my support. It was good to hear HMRC’s business case being completely unpicked by a cross-party, community-wide panel.”

Andrew Ford referenced the 2014 independence referendum when he responded:“Ah, but the Tories told us these jobs would be safe if we voted for the beloved union that looks after us all.

“Just another consequence of a No vote.”

And Linda Burns simply said: “Better together?”

On Twitter, @johnd1873 posted a picture of last week’s edition, reporting on the stepping up of efforts to keep Centre 1 and Plaza Tower open, and said:“Front page news.”

Reindeer Day

Thousands of people turned out on the streets of Strathaven for the town’s annual Reindeer Day festivities.

Kids enjoyed looking at the animals while Santa Claus himself featured in the parade.

Steven Holt had obviously opened a Christmas cracker when he posted:“What do you call a deer with no eyes? “No eye deer.” Well done, Steven. Hope you and everyone else has a very merry Christmas.
