There is plenty of choice for EK shoppers
What makes EK folk spend money locally
The News spoke to shoppers in East Kilbride to find out what made them shop locally – and why they thought it was important to do so.
With the opening of The Hub, there is now even more choice for those heading to the town.
Donna Kelly, from St Leonards, said she liked East Kilbride town centre due to its proximity to her home and choice.
“I do tend to do my shopping in the town as its mostly undercover,” she said.
“I also don’t have a car so I can get the bus or even walk.
“On the whole there is a good choice of shops although I would like a bit more choice for kids clothes.”
Meanwhile, EK shopper Laverne Hastie said: “I like to support businesses in the area and everything is under one roof which is why I like coming to East Kilbride.”
Former shop owner, Jason Halford, from Gardenhall, told the News: “I am all for supporting local traders having run a shop myself.
“I have shopped locally since I came to EK in 1982 and I think there is plenty of choice which means I get nearly everything I need here.”
And Jenny Thomson, from Greenhills, added: “I like the fact everything is indoors, particulary in the winter when it’s not very nice outside.
“I come to the centre every Wedensday with mty friend and we go for a tea and bite to eat.”
