These lovable pets are looking for new homes

- Andrea O’Neill

Calling all animal lovers – these delightful cuddly creatures are desperately seeking their forever home.

After being rescued by the Scottish SPCA Lanarkshire, Andy, Allan, Spud and Miss Libby have been left languishing at the animal welfare charity’s centre in Hamilton with nowhere to call home.

Andy is a very confident little guinea pig who always comes to greet you in the morning.

He has lots of energy and spends most of his days running around his enclosure or playing with his ball.

An owner who has plenty of time to handle him and give him lots of exercise would suit best.

Andy will make a fun-loving pet for any family lucky enough to take him on.

Allan is a very sweet older boy who loves lapping up all the attention he can get.

This Staffordshire bull terrier arrived at the centre as a stray and sadly nobody has come forward for him.

Allan is finding kennel life a bit stressful so he has been spending loads of time with the staff and has also been paired up with a canine buddy to help him gain confidence so he could possibly be rehomed with another dog.

Allan’s favourite thing in the world is bum rubs and he would happily sit and receive them all day.

He knows some basic commands and also walks really well on his lead and harness.

Allan would make a great companion in most households with older children.

Spud is a lovely girl who can be a bit shy at times and prefers to hide away in the security of her hutch.

When you spend time with her, you can coax her out of with some tasty treats.

Spud is okay with being handled and picked up – but prefers to stay close to the ground.

The more she is handled, the more at ease and happy she becomes.

Miss Libby is a gorgeous and very active girl who was rescued as a stray.

She is always on the go, loves nice long walks and enjoys being able to have a run around the paddock at the rescue centre.

She also has a very sweet and affectionate side and will lie next to you for a nice long cuddle. Miss Libby walks like a true lady on her lead but will need some basic training.

She would be best suited to an active owner and a home without young children where she will receive all the exercise she needs.

Just like Andy, Allan and Spud, Miss Libby would make a great little addition to any family home.

If you can offer any one of these animals a permanent and loving home please contact the Lanarkshire centre on 03000 999 999.

Alternatively, pop into the centre, on Bothwell Road, for a visit.

Meanwhile, the SSPCA is offering runners the opportunity of a lifetime to experience one of the world’s largest running events while supporting Scotland’s unwanted, abandoned and neglected animals.

With the ballot for the London Marathon closed, this could be the final chance for people to take part.

The charity is inviting local people to take up the challenge of running 26.2 miles while making a real difference to the lives of animals.

Lanarkshire centre manager, Peter Fleming, said: “By taking part in fundraising events like this, people are helping us to care for more unwanted, abandoned and neglected animals. We don’t receive any government or lottery funding which means we rely on the public to be able to continue our work rescuing and rehoming animals in desperate need of our help.

“Anyone who takes a Scottish SPCA charity place at the London Marathon will be helping save lives.” For further information on the Virgin London Marathon 2017 please call the Scottish SPCA’s fundraising team on 03000 999 999 (option 4), email fundraising@scottishspca.org or visit the website: https://www. scottishspca.org/events/londonmarathon-2016/
