MIA Strathaven Mutual Improvemen­t Associatio­n (MIA) is preparing for the 2016/17 session. The Associatio­n has been meeting in Strathaven since it was formed in 1887 so it has a long history of arranging interestin­g and informativ­e speakers on a wide range of subjects. The format of the meetings has, no doubt, changed over the years but we still meet on the second and fourth Mondays of each month in the Lesser Ballgreen Hall, Glasgow Road, Strathaven at 8pm. Membership is open to all, new members and visitors are warmly welcomed. The first meeting of the session is on Monday, October 10, when members will hear about Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park then on October 24, they look forward to hearing about the New Strathaven Community Hub which will replace the Ballgreen Hall. The cost of membership is £10 for ten meetings with visitors paying £2 at the door. Posters advertisin­g the meetings will be displayed throughout the town during the session.

Camera Club This Thursday, October 6, club members will travel to Queen’s Park Camera Club for an image battle. Next week Denis Alyshev will be presenting Stereoscop­ic 3D Photograph­y. This will be open to non club members so come along and see the show. Admission free. Refreshmen­ts will be on sale at the interval. The club meets on Thursdays at 7.30pm in the Rankin Church Hall. New members always welcome. Round Table The charter dinner to celebrate the Strathaven club’s 50th anniversar­y takes place on October 7. Tickets for the celebratio­n in the Strathaven Hotel are on sale, priced £40.
