Mickleover in high spirits for Trophy

-

MICKLEOVER are on a roll as they prepare for tomorrow’s FA Trophy third qualifying round home tie against Isthmian North Division side Dereham Town (3pm).

George Milner scored the only goal as Mickleover beat Hyde United at the Don Amott Arena in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division on Tuesday night.

That victory in a feisty affair made it five league wins on the trot for John McGrath’s side and tomorrow they are at home to a Magpies side that play one level below.

Dereham are ninth in the table with two wins so far this season.

Ilkeston Town also prepared for Trophy action by winning in midweek, Alex Troke and Joseph Maguire scoring in a 2-1 home win against Chasetown in the Pitching In NPL South/East Division.

The Robins travel to face AFC Rushden & Diamonds in a third qualifying round clash tomorrow.

Matlock Town must wait until Tuesday for their Trophy third round qualifying clash away against Coalville Town (3pm) after the Gladiators’ two most recent games were postponed because of Covid-19 positive tests.

The Gladiators’ home games against Scarborough Athletic last Saturday and Nantwich Town on Tuesday were rearranged, much to the frustration of Matlock defender Adam Yates.

“We started last season off well so I know how, especially around the winter time, that is the crunch time and we need to keep the results going during that period,” said Yates. “It’s a massive period with the amount of games.

“Matches getting called off is disappointing and it’s disappointing that the momentum has been broken.

“We were meant to have training on Tuesday but we had more positive cases so it didn’t happen.

“We are not out of the woods by any respect and it’s frustrating.”

Alfreton Town have their first game in three weeks tomorrow when they travel to face Telford United in the Vanarama National League North.

In the Pitching In NPL South/East Division, Belper Town are at home to Spalding United tomorrow.

All four of our local teams involved in the FA Vase first round tomorrow are playing away.

Gresley Rovers travel to face Congleton Town, while Heanor Town hit the road to play Coventry Sphinx.

Long Eaton United are away against Studley in their first round clash, while Belper United make the trip to face Rainworth MW.

In the East Midlands Counties Premier Division, Borrowash Victoria and Graham St Prims are both at home to Ingles and Ollerton Town respectively.
