A PAIR of burglars were caught in the middle of a raid on a Boots in Allestree.

Two police officers happened to be driving past the shop, in Park Farm Centre, on Friday night when they heard an alarm and spotted smashed glass on the floor.

PC Clayton and PC Smith then caught the law breakers red-handed inside the store.

Allestree Police SNT (Safer Neighbourhood Team) posted on its Facebook page: “Now for some good news in Allestree.

“Boots was broken into last night, (this isn’t the good bit). But unfortunately for the pair inside, PC Clayton and PC Smith happened to be driving by as the alarm went off.

“They saw smashed glass and caught them both still inside the property. Fantastic result, keep up the good work both of you. That’s all folks, until the next time.”

Commenting on the Facebook post, one user wrote: “I bet their faces were a picture!” Others praised the officers, saying “well done”, “good work” and “marvellous job”.

On Saturday, the store front was boarded up with a sign in the window advising customers who need urgent prescriptions to ring the bell at the back of the shop.

Small pieces of broken glass were still outside of the shop front whilst larger shards of broken glass could be seen on the floor inside.

It is not the first time the store has been targeted by thieves in recent months.

Police were seeking two men and two women after the shop store was broken into on June 11.

The shop had to close for a time for emergency repairs.

That was the second time the store had been targeted in a fortnight. In fact the main door had not been fully repaired after the first break-in, on Sunday, June 2.

At the time, a spokesperson at Seasons for Flowers, which is near the Boots store, said: “You would’ve thought they would have tightened security.”
