Cornish coast’s doggy heaven

-

DREAMING of sun, sea and sand this summer?

You don’t need to go abroad for your holiday – enjoy the Cornish coast with your canine companion.

Boasting a captivating cliff-top setting, Talland Bay Hotel is the ideal base for a dog-friendly break.

Offering rooms to suit all budgets, from sea view to garden cottages, the luxury country house hotel gives an exceptional welcome to man’s best friend. I was invited, along with my pooches and husband, to put it through its paces.

We were staying in the Bungalow, a self-catering cottage featuring a television, roll-top bath and enclosed garden. Pooch pamper packs were left out with blankets, bowls, poop bags, feeding mats and handmade treats. There was also a booklet with suggested walks and attractions to give us inspiration for our stay.

Tucked away on a secluded stretch of Cornish coast, the boutique hotel is yards from the South West Coast Path. From there, you can walk to seaside resorts including Looe. The town is full of dog-friendly shops, cafés and pubs, and even has a pet-friendly amusement arcade. You can also take the coastal route to Polperro – a quaint little village boasting beaches, gift shops and beautiful views. Plus the hotel is just a short stroll to the beach, which is dogfriendly all year round.

In addition to the hotel rooms, furry friends are welcome in the bar, lounge and conservatory restaurant. After enjoying a canapé and cocktail in the bar, we were shown through to the conservatory, which was packed with pups enjoying a snooze after a day at the beach.

The award-winning restaurant presented us with a feast while the pooches were served up a bowl of fresh, locally sourced chicken and sausages for breakfast. If you truly want to pamper your pet, you can also enjoy afternoon tea together. While we munched on sandwiches, cakes and scones, Wilbur and Paisley were treated to their own canine cupcakes whipped up with an oat-based sponge and mascarpone topping.

Rooms cost from £210 on a bed and breakfast basis and dogs are charged at £15 each per night.
