GOOD REMATCH
Sub out to sink Strad again
ROUND two of the heavyweight bout between Subjectivist and Stradivarius will take place in the Goodwood Cup next month.
In last Thursday’s Ascot Gold Cup three-time winner Stradivarius received a knock-out blow from impressive winner Subjectivist.
Frankie Dettori, riding of Stradivarius, was clearly out-pointed on that occasion as he found himself in a pocket and also gave Subjectivist too much rope in his attempt to win the race for the fourth time on the seven-year-old.
Dettori confessed afterwards that he wished he could have ridden the race again.
Mark Johnston, the trainer of Subjectivist, said: “Whichever way you look at it, whether it be the form, the time, the sectional times, the distance he won by, it all points to it being an absolutely top-drawer performance.” Bookmakers share Johnston’s view and make Subjectivist 6-4 with Stradivarius 7-4 to make amends and take the prize for a historic fifth consecutive time.
Palace Pier and Poetic Flare, impressive Royal Ascot winners, top the bill in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.
The John Gosden-trained Palace Pier heads the betting at 5-4 with Poetic Flare an attractive 9-4 with Ladbrokes.
TOM MARQUAND, gunning for championship honours, enhanced his claims with a treble at Salisbury yesterday on Dairerin, Johan and Kolisi.
THE new alliance between Sheikh Obaid and Andrew Balding is expected to be celebrated with Dubai Jewel at Newmarket on Friday.
This is the first season the owner has had horses with Balding.
