HARRISON Ford has been forced to halt filming of the Indiana Jones film after injuring his shoulder.

The veteran Hollywood action man, 78, had been practising a fight scene for the fifth instalment of the popular film series.

Doctors have ordered the movie legend to undergo a period of recuperation after he was treated for the injury.

Movie bosses have now “reconfigured” the filming schedule so other parts of the plot can be shot until he has recovered.

A statement released by Disney – which acquired the rights to the character with its purchase of Lucasfilm in 2012 – said: “In the course of rehearsing for a fight scene, Harrison Ford sustained an injury involving his shoulder.

“Production will continue while the appropriate course of treatment is evaluated and the filming schedule will be reconfigured as needed in the coming weeks.”

Ahead of filming the action flick, the star undertook a gruelling exercise regime comprised of walking and cycling up to 40 miles a day.

It is not the first time he has been forced to take a break from filming after getting injured on movie sets.

In 2014 Ford suffered a fractured ankle when a hydraulic door fell on him during the filming of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The Han Solo star was airlifted to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, and he needed a plate and screws in his ankle.

Ford returned to the set after two months, but the crew had to shoot scenes with him from the waist up.

In 2015 keen pilot Ford crashed his vintage plane in Los Angeles after it suffered engine failure.

The fifth Indiana Jones movie is being directed by James Mangold, with longtime franchise director Steven Spielberg taking on a producer role.
