TATT’LL DO NICELY FOR HENDERSON

- ■ by CHRIS MCKENNA

JORDAN HENDERSON is ready to get another tattoo to match the European Cup on his left thigh.

His Liverpool team-mates have asked their skipper if he is going to get a matching one on his right leg to mark the Premier League triumph.

“A few of the lads have mentioned that,” he said.

“So I don’t think I can let them down – but we’ll have to wait and see.”

The 30-year-old will become the first Reds captain to get his hands on the Premier League trophy when the Merseysiders face Chelsea in their final home game later this month.

He will also be the first skipper since Alan Hansen in 1990 to lift a league trophy for the club and the first since Graeme Souness in 1984 to have hoisted both the European Cup and the

English league crown. But on Friday, the day after the title was secured, it was business as usual with his wife and three kids.

“It is overwhelming,” he said. “It will take a while to sink in properly, but when I came back into the house it was normal with the kids, which I quite like.

“They were just having their tea and asking us to make them a drink. That was it basically.

“As soon as I came in I was on the back foot and I had to start looking after them and basically letting them boss me about for a few hours before bed. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Henderson took over as skipper from Steven Gerrard at Anfield and is the only captain to lift the Premier League, Champions League and Club World Cup for the Reds.

“I don’t really think about stuff like that,” he said

“After so many years, to give back what the fans have wanted so badly feels amazing for all of us involved.

“I’m just honoured and proud to have been part of it.

“It’s a real sense of pride and joy, to give the fans and the club something they’ve wanted for a long time.”

He was also quick to pay tribute to his predecessor as skipper.

Henderson said: “This is not only for us as players and the fans but it is also for players like Stevie and Kenny Dalglish, who mean so much to this football club.

“I know how much it would mean to Stevie to win the Premier league title.

“He’s so happy for us to be able to do that.”
