OUR TOP COLUMNIST SHOOTS FROM THE LIP Nightmare for lower leagues

-

FOOTBALL is right to shut down due to coronavirus but I don’t see how some clubs will be able to survive an extended break.

I can understand why they’ve suspended all the games. It’s the right decision. People’s health has to be the main concern.

The only question is why they didn’t do it sooner. I don’t know what they were waiting for.

Why did it have

Arteta and Callum coming down with them to take action?

That said, I do feel a bit sorry for the Premier League and the Football League. I don’t think they have a clue what to do really.

Schools aren’t shutting. The Government haven’t banned mass gatherings. There are thousands of people at Cheltenham. Our response has been confused.

This is going to hurt lower league clubs now. I’ve been there. I managed at Walsall. We were a well-run club.

But if we had one home game called off due to bad weather or whatever, the chairman would come in and say, ‘We are right up against it.’

One game then and things were tight. If you’re getting two or three called off or probably more... wow, it’s a nightmare scenario.

They are going to need help. The Premier League might need to step in and help them. People are going to to take Mikel Hudson-odoi the illness for

YOU have to feel sorry for Charlton and their fans.

They thought they had got rid of one bad owner and now they’ve ended up in a potentially even bigger mess.

I know what Charlton have been through over the years.

They had to fight so hard to get back to The Valley.

Their fans are incredibly loyal and they deserve better than lose their otherwise.

And what happens to Liverpool’s title? To the relegation battle?

You have to come back and finish the season. You can’t just end it now. That would be wrong.

In the Premier League the teams haven’t even all played the same number of games.

Aston Villa have a game in hand. If they win it they’re out of the bottom three.

You can’t cancel the season now and relegate them. It wouldn’t be fair. another big boardroom row that threatens the future of the club.

I hope it gets sorted because they’re in a lot of trouble at the wrong end of the table. But boss Lee Bowyer (left) has handled it all with so much dignity. He will never see anything like this again and I think it will make him a stronger man and a better manager.

He has a big future whatever happens. jobs and livelihoods

Bournemouth are only in the bottom three on goal difference. You can’t just tell them they’re down.

And even if you gave Liverpool the trophy, it wouldn’t feel right.

It wouldn’t feel like a proper title if they haven’t played all the games.

We have to try to finish the season. But by the time the players come back, that’s when we are due to hit the peak of the virus, apparently.

And will the players be fit if they’ve all been selfisolating and they can’t train properly? It sets up all sorts of unfair advantages.

How can you have one team that’s trained together for weeks playing one that’s potentially only had a few days to prepare?

It’s also a huge problem because players go out of contract at the end of June and we could still be playing games. It’s a nightmare.

But you want the season played out for Liverpool’s sake if nothing else.

They’ve waited 30 championship.

Look at what it means to those fans. They’re saying older people might be banned from going to games.

But try telling a 70-year-old Kopite who’s supported them all his life that he can’t come in. It’s his choice.

There will be people flying in from all over the world for the victory parade. But would you even be allowed to hold one?

It would be a sad end to a great season because Liverpool deserve to be able to celebrate. I hope they get to
