Nuno wants a new year rise

- ■ by CHRIS McKENNA

WOLVES boss Nuno Espirito Santo can only see his side get better after a stunning 2019.

Wolves are five points off fourthplaced Chelsea, ahead of today’s clash at Watford, and are through to the Europa League last-32.

But boss Nuno (inset) is expecting even more from his side if he gets money to spend.

He said: “I truly believe there is a lot of space to improve.

“We have a very small squad. The players involved are basically the same as last season.

“If we can improve our performance and try and bring in players with different characteristics, then there is a lot of space to improve.”

Watford may be second from bottom but that does not mean Wolves will take them lightly.

Nuno added: “There was a reaction under the new manager and things are improving.” Watford players believe improved communication and clarity of instruction under new boss Nigel Pearson has been a key factor behind their recovery.

In a dressing room with 16 nationalities, the language barrier has been a running theme at Vicarage Road.

But assistant boss Craig Shakespeare said: “I can’t change my nationality and neither can anyone else here. But we’ve come in, tried to install what we believe is the right thing to do and it’s for everybody else to judge whether it’s working.

“We know we’ll be judged at the end of the season, and by then hopefully we’ll be where we need to be.

“If you are successful, it’s the right model – and if you’re not, it’s the wrong one.”
